Kids in community: Creating French connections

La Petite École reaches beyond the classroom to prepare children to thrive in French community. Through community partnerships and events, La Petite École connects with local organizations to extend your child's social skills and French language skills into the real world from an early age.

Our community connections

Building bridges between classroom learning and real-world French experiences

through meaningful partnerships with local organizations.

Intergenerational program

French storytime with seniors

Children visit the local senior center weekly to share French stories and songs with elderly community members, practicing their French while creating meaningful intergenerational bonds.

Painting workshops

Children work alongside senior volunteers to create collaborative art projects while conversing in French, combining artistic expression with language practice.

Intergenerational connection and learning

Regular visits create opportunities for children to learn about French-Canadian heritage and traditions while practicing conversational French in authentic contexts.

Music program

Musicality & Rhythm Foundations

Through our partnership with the Kingsway School of Music, children explore tempo, beat, and sound in weekly in-class sessions offered one semester each year.

Confidence, Coordination & Creativity

Music sessions nurture key developmental skills—like focus, dexterity, and self-expression—in a warm, play-based environment.

Joyful, Play-Based Music Learning

A child’s first connection to music is joyful and hands-on, blending movement, imagination, and group connection.

Movement partnerships

Yoga en français – 3 Mamans Yoginis

Children build balance, focus, and body awareness through playful yoga sessions in French, led by the wonderful team at 3 Mamans Yoginis.

Bilingual Soccer – Little Kickers

We kick into spring and fall with fun, bilingual soccer sessions from Little Kickers, helping children grow confidence, coordination, and teamwork.

Neighbourhood Walks

We love to walk! Regular outings through Bloor West encourage gross motor development, curiosity, and community awareness—all en français.

Gardening & local connections

Bloor Village Flowers

Children visit this local flower shop to explore seasonal blooms, learn about planting, and create simple floral arrangements—hands-on and sensory-rich.

Graham the Gardener

Twice a year, Graham joins us to refresh our school garden and planters—children dig, plant, and learn about gardening in French.

Local Business Visits

We explore the neighborhood on foot, visiting bakeries, cafés, and shops. These short trips build real-world vocabulary and connect children to their community.
